Swim Team

Dear Rosedale Rockets Family,

What do you do when it’s officially spring, very cold and snowing outside?  Of course, you begin dreaming about summer!  While there will be an abundance of information coming your way soon, the coaches, managers and I wanted to make you aware of some important changes and opportunities coming your way. 

First, we are so proud of the team culture and growth that keeps the Rosedale Rockets a competitive and welcoming team.  We have been blessed to have a growing team and had well over 100 swimmers last year. 

To that end, we recognize that there is a diminishing return when all swimmers attend every practice.  In order to provide more individualized instruction and to help every swimmer improve, we are going to try out a new practice schedule for the summer.

The evening practices at the end of May and beginning of June will be evaluation practices where each swimmer will be assessed and assigned to either the Gold or Silver Group.  In general, Gold Swimmers will need to be legal in all 4 competitive strokes and Silver Swimmers will need to be able to pass the Rosedale deep water test (2 lengths and tread for 30 seconds).  Those evening assessment practices will be age specific so read the schedule carefully to be sure to attend the right practice.

Gold practices will be heavier on endurance while Silver practices will emphasize learning proper technique and becoming legal in the 4 strokes.

Once all swimmers have been assessed, our practice schedule will generally look like this:

Monday – 9:30 – 11:00 Silver Swimmers (Gold Optional) //  9:30 – 10:15 Mini Rockets

Tuesday – 9:00 – 11:00 Gold Swimmers

Wednesday – 9:30 – 11:00 Silver Swimmers
Thursday – 9:00 – 11:00 Gold Swimmers
Monday – 9:30 – 11:00 ALL Swimmers //  9:30 – 10:15 Mini Rockets

Mini Rockets is our “pre-competitive” team.  This group is for swimmers who haven’t passed the deep-water test but want to be part of our team culture.  As listed above, Mini Rockets will be held Mondays & Fridays beginning June 17 & ending July 19 with no practices the first week of July.  We will be capping the enrollment in the Mini Rocket program based on volunteers and safety.

Finally, due to a technical glitch, we will be starting a new Team Snap team.  Invitations for that team will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
